Cape Ann North Lighthouse on Thacher Island, Massachusetts, one of two lighthouses (North and South), has a long and interesting history. Google search Thacher Island Towers for the full history.
Authorized to be built back in 1771 by the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the two towers (also known as "Ann's Eyes") on Thacher Island were the first to mark a dangerous spot on the coast the Londoner Ledge, a partly submerged reef one-half mile from the island. They were also the last lighthouses to be built under British Rule of the Colonies. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark in January 2001.
